Event Details

Author, Certified Sommelier and brand strategist, Rick Bakas is globally recognized as a thought leader in the world of wine and social media.  As the first Director of Social media in the wine industry, he influenced new ideas and new concepts that connect wineries to new wine consumers through tweetup tours and global online wine tastings.  Rick specializes in translating personal and corporate brands to new media.  He is an adviser at Bakas Media, a social media branding agency in San Francisco specializing in food and wine.

Prior to entering the wine industry in 2004, Rick spent eight years at NIKE, Inc where he worked on branding efforts for the NFL’s Denver Broncos, New York Giants and the University of Oregon.
In 2011, Rick will be traveling the world educating businesses and wineries on how to build their brands online.  For a list of appearances and past presentations, please visit the appearances page.

This Future Marketers workshop will be useful for business currently using new media tools, but are seeking the next level of understanding.

SESSION PRESENTERS:

Ben Parr is a respected technology journalist, web entrepreneur, science fiction author, and aspiring world changer. He is currently the Co-Editor of Mashable, the world’s largest blog focused on social media news and web technology. With over 15 million readers and 35 million monthly pageviews, Mashable is the leader in reviewing new websites and services, publishing breaking news on what’s new on the web, and offering social media resources and guides.

In addition to his duties at Mashable, also recently completed his first sci-fi thriller novel, Desel. His previous experience includes project management for Facebook applications and content management in the web health space.

Ben’s work has been featured in media such as CNN, G4, the BBC, WiredThe TelegraphPlayboy, and The New York Times. He is a graduate of Northwestern University, majoring in Science in Human Culture and Political Science and minoring in Business.

Megan Berry is Marketing Manager for Klout. There, she runs influencer marketing and designs and implements programs and product that top brands use to reach and engage influencers. Klout is the standard measure of influence across the social web.

She's a social media junkie and blogs for Huffington Post, Mashable, Brazen Careerist, and, of course, the Klout blog on social media strategy and advice. She's a graduate of Stanford University. Follow her on Twitter as @meganberry.

Elizabeth Weil (@elizabeth) leads Culture and Marketing at Twitter. She joined Twitter in 2009 to start the Corporate Development team to lead acquisitions and then started the Product Marketing team to launch Twitter's Promoted Products. Before joining Twitter, Elizabeth was a venture capitalist with the Sand Hill Road firm, Institutional Venture Partners. Prior to IVP, Elizabeth worked at Menlo Ventures as an Investment Analyst and held marketing positions with online gaming company Xfire (acquired by MTV/Viacom) and eBay drop-off company, AuctionDrop. By night, Elizabeth is a letterpress printer and designer (www.paperwheel.com), who has run 37 ultramarathons and marathons. Elizabeth has a Masters in Management Science and Engineering and a B.A. in Economics from Stanford University, where she was a Mayfield Fellow and Buck Scholar.
